Sunday, January 25, 1998 I opted not to hit the mountain and instead Brian and I hit the town of steamboat. We found an amazing smokehouse and had the best wings that I've ever had. They had been hickory smoked and then covered with a fairly hot sauce. The combination was fantastic. Normally either the greasy wings or the abundance of vinegar in the hot sauce turn me off; these wings had little of either. Because some snow had moved in (we got snow both nights that we were there) we wanted to leave fairly early so that we could get over rabbit ears pass before it got dark (the pass had been closed earlier in the day). We made it out fine; the road was packed snow in some areas but it didn't present any problems. As we got into Boulder we learned that the Broncos had won the Superbowl. We decided to grab dinner in Boulder and watch some of the madness. Boulder was fairly tame, people hanging out of cars, blowing their horns and generally just running around and shouting like idiots. As you may have heard Denver was a bit more out of hand with a bit of property damage and teargas fired. |
