Wednesday, January 28, 1998 The next day, properly suited and packed I left shortly after 11 AM. I headed over to see Hoover Dam and to hit another state (AZ). I would have stayed a bit but with no close parking I didn't feel safe leaving all of my gear exposed. The twisty roads going in and out of the Dam were fun though. Then I headed south, crossing over and occasionally riding on the old Route 66. I ended up on I40. I also learned that what are called towns on the map may not even have a house, let alone a gas station. Figuring out that you have ~44 miles of gas and ~65 miles to the next town was enough to make my heart skip a beat. Fortunately there was an entrepreneur that could help. For that fantastic price of $1.95/gal there was a little gas station in the middle of nowhere. $9.54 later I was ready to roll again. The roads were mostly straight and generally boring as I rode down out of the pass. I got to my sister's house around 5:30. That night was spent catching up, unpacking, and doing laundry. |
