Monday, February 2, 1998 I took the clerk's advice. When I woke up and looked out the window a very light snow was falling, reinforcing my decision. Fortunately it only snowed for a few minutes and at best a few flakes only stuck for less than an hour. I finally checked out around 11:15 and then headed north. Fortunately there was no indication of ice on the roads (the shoulders had a light layer of snow from the night before.) Snow level was supposed to be 3500 feet at the start of the day, moving to over 5000 by the afternoon. Medford (a little north of the OR border) was supposed to reach 54 degrees. The ride was fairly boring. Once again I managed to catch Portland evening commute traffic. Between this and the low speed limits in WA my wrists started to bother me. I've been fighting carpal tunnel syndrome for many years. Riding a motorcycle occasionally aggravates it, but not usually at highway speeds. I didn't have a problem on the earlier part of the trip. I stopped off to visit a friend in Lakewood at 7:15 for a few hours and finally made it home shortly after 10 PM. It was a good trip and I'm sure I'll be making more long trips in the future. My final trip odometer reading was 777.7, for a total of 3,777.7 miles. |
